Our Process
Whether you want to realize the value from underutilized forest, mill, or wood waste residuals, have expensive heat and/or power bills, or both, we work with you to explore and identify best-fit wood energy solutions.
1
Data Collection and Initial Analysis
Our process starts at no cost to you with an initial energy analysis to better understand your energy load and/or woody residual supply - this gives us a first indication at whether your project is a good candidate for a biomass application.
Check out our online data collection survey for an example of detailed data collection needs - this can be pared down to higher level data collection for a quicker analysis, if details are difficult to source.
2
Phased Design & Engineering
Biomass projects take time - especially when they involve a variety of stakeholders or you’re just not sure yet how you want to proceed. If this sounds like you, a stepwise approach to design might make the most sense. Wisewood can help guide your project through each level of development, or step in to pick up where you’ve left off, and help secure incentives and grant funding to do so.
-
Build upon initial analysis with a more thorough feasibility assessment or technology evaluation, fine tuned energy modeling, and ROM cost estimates based on conceptual design.
-
Dig into the details to develop preliminary mechanical designs, select your site, pull in electrical and structural engineering, and initiate preliminary permitting discussions. Update cost estimates to inform project implementation.
-
You’re nearly ready to go to bid, but need stamped drawings first. Engage all engineering disciplines to finalize drawing sets, complete pre-construction permit documentation, and get the project ready for construction.
-
Procure equipment, secure permits, construct, and commission!
-
Your project is up and running and now you need long-term operations support. If you’re located in our region, we can help!
Choose Your Approach
Turnkey Design & Build
Maybe owning and operating a biomass facility isn’t in your wheelhouse. Leave project development to us and focus on what you do best! Wisewood offers a third-party “BESCO” ownership model to select projects that meet financing criteria. What this looks like for you:
Provide MOU and conditional site lease based on preliminary energy modeling and cost estimates
Execute long-term Energy Service Agreements once financing package is finalized
Sit back while we take care of construction and operations!
Public-Private partnership opportunities may be explored

Operations
Wisewood is dedicated to long-term engagement with our clients and the energy infrastructure we build. We can support or manage long-term system operations, maintenance, and fuel supply procurement, either from the beginning or later on in operations when support is needed. We provide ongoing support to projects in Northern Washington, Eastern Oregon, and the California Sierra.
