Where incentives exist for exporting electricity to the grid, and where markets for residual woody biomass are needed to offset pile burning from forest restoration and wildfire mitigation efforts, a biomass power plant with a utility power purchase agreement may be an option. In California, for example, the SB 1122 BioMAT program offers a competitive price for biomass power produced from plants that generate up to 3MW for grid export, and use eligible biomass from sustainable forest activities.
